Melissa Nabb - Violin

Melissa Nabb began teaching in Lexington in 2007 and has been teaching in Montgomery County since 2005.  Before moving to Kentucky, she also maintained a large private studio in Naperville, IL.  Her students have placed into All-State Orchestras, youth orchestras, and the top orchestras at their schools as well as going on to major in music at universities. She received her bachelor’s degree in Viola Performance from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and her master’s degree in Viola Performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Melissa’s main teachers were Rudolf Haken and Rolland Vamos.  She has participated in master classes with Paul Neubauer, Roberto Diaz, Burton Kaplan, James Dunham and the Takacs Quartet. 

Melissa has attended Domaine Forget, Magic Mountain Practice Camp, Hot Springs Music Festival, and Innsbrook Music Festival.  She was a member of the Sinfonia da Camera, Champaign-Urbana Symphony, the Prairie Ensemble, Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra, Northwestern University Contemporary Music Ensemble, University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, and University of Illinois Baroque Ensemble, and has performed with the Lexington Philharmonic, Opera Illinois, and the ICE-International Contemporary Ensemble.  Melissa is currently a member of the Huntington Symphony in Huntington, WV.

Melissa is licensed in Suzuki Technique for both violin and viola.  She received her training at the Chicago Suzuki Institute with Shigetoshi Yamada.  Melissa teaches violin and viola in both traditional and Suzuki approaches.
