Music Therapy at the Music Institute |
Music Therapy is the systematic use of music to address the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of people of all ages. Based on an initial assessment of each individual, the music therapist designs a program of treatment that incorporates the individual's personal preferences and desires while targeting specific goals in each session. Among common goals are:
A music therapist is a graduate of a qualified university program, including four years of academic and practical work in addition to a six-month internship with an experienced music therapist at a well-established site. Board certification is achieved by passing an initial examination, and must be maintained thereafter through meeting continuing education requirements.
